Juvenile California Condor
This image was used by the Audubon Society in a March 2, 2017 story about the devastating effects of lead poisoning.
I hiked to an elevation of approximately 1,400 feet at Pinnacles National Park in California just to get the opportunity to photograph this amazing bird. It was one thing to photograph this juvenile condor but a completely different experience to hear the adult condors approach from behind me and perhaps only 10 to 15 feet directly overhead as they passed by me. They sounded like small aircraft! It’s my favorite moment in birding!
